Hardware stores are essential for DIY projects and renovations. Lowes and Home Depot are both available in Destin and Panama City Beach, but it can take 30 minutes to an hour one way depending on traffic. Here’s a list of local hardware stores near 30A.
Frank’s Cash & Carry
Located on Logan Lane just off County Road 283 South, Frank’s is my favorite local place to go for hardware odds and ends. The staff is knowledgable and friendly, and the store is larger than other local hardware counterparts.
The front of the store is laid out like your typical hardware store, and connects to a second building where they sell Benjamin Moore paint. Ashley has helped me several times in the paint department and she’s very knowledgeable. She’s worked there over a decade and can help you pick out the ideal type of paint for your needs.
This location does not have a lumber yard, but their store in Freeport just 20 minutes North offers one of the largest lumber yards in the area.
I know that the independent builder who built every houses in our neighborhood relied on Frank’s Cash & Carry for a lot, if not most, of the lumber and framing materials.

South Bay Lumber
Formerly an Ace Hardware, South Bay Lumber is always busy. Located on Hwy 98 just East of Hwy 393, South Bay has significant outdoor lumber storage behind the building.
Your new name is “Sugar” or “Honey” as soon as you walk in. Just deal with it. There’s a lot in this store despite it’s size. Next door they operate a paint store as well.

Ace Hardware Freeport
I like this Ace Hardware location because they’re open when all the other local hardware stores have closed early on Saturday. They don’t have a lumber yard at this location, but they have all the screws, nails, pipes, fittings, hinges, glues, stains, and tools you need.

I haven’t personally visited this location, but they’re worth mentioning. They sell a lot of HVAC parts and supplies, as well as plumbing supplies, power tools, valves, and kitchen hardware.

Walmart (aka “Smallmart”)
This Walmart location is not the comprehensive Walmart you might be used to. It’s a total toss up whether you’ll find what you’re looking for at this location. The upside is that you can search the app or website and limit results to in-store at this location to save yourself a trip to find out. Local hardware stores understandably do not keep inventory listed on their websites.

I’ve frequented all of the stores above, and my top choice is Frank’s Cash and Carry. I use South Bay Lumber and Freeport Ace Hardware the second most. There are still times I need to drive to Home Depot or Lowes, if for no other reason than they keep the latest store hours and I want to stock up for the next day’s work.
